SOUTH VANCOUVER ISLAND CLASSICS’
SVICSA GUIDELINES FOR PLAYERS (as of 1st Jan 2009)
"PLAYING SOCCER AT AGE 40+ SHOULD BE A CELEBRATION OF THE GAME WE ARE PLAYING RECREATIONAL SOCCER!!”
1. Play by the rules and the spirit of the rules. 2. Watch your language. We sometimes even have fans - wives, kids, dogs, etc. and we always have neighbours. Offensive language destroys the tone between teams. 3. Right or wrong - support the officials - linesmen and referees. LEARN THE RULES OF THE GAME and volunteer to assist as an official. Abusive behaviour after the final whistle is likely to result in the issue of a red or yellow card. Be aware of the other penalties for abusing the referee. 4. If you knock an opponent down, help him up. 5. No 50-50 ball is worth injury to either yourself or your opponent. Better to allow a goal than to risk injury - we all have to work tomorrow. Be aware of the no sliding rule ie do not slide to make contact with the ball if there is a possibility you could make contact with another player. 6. GOALKEEPERS: At our age goalkeepers are a precious commodity – make every attempt to avoid physical contact with them. Note that they are allowed to slide in order to make contact with the ball with their hands. 7. Be aware of the school or municipal bylaws governing the consumption of alcohol. Be sure to leave the park cleaner than when you arrived. 8. Abide by and support the decisions of the Association Discipline Committee. 9. Volunteer to help out with the running of your team/the league. 10. The 10 minute penalty: Referees will give you this penalty for:- - a tendency towards rough play - persistent verbal harassment of opponents and/or fellow team members. - dissent toward referee A record will be kept of players receiving 10 min penalties. 11. TEAM MANAGERS and other TEAM MEMBERS are responsible for the control of abusive players. Get them off the field! 12. TEAM WARNINGS: Teams receiving more than one warning for inappropriate behaviour in a season will be fined and/or suspended from the Association. 13. Team managers may make complaints about the quality of officiating or opponents behaviour. They will only be considered if they are in writing and specific. They should be sent to the Disciplinary committee Chair Joe McBride eggplant@islandnet.com Forms are available at www.svicsa.com/manager_report.htm
